If you are looking for a vacation on a spectacular island, Costa Rica should be on your list. This island is one of the most beautiful in all the world. Tourists come from everywhere to experience the grandeur and wonder of this tropical paradise. Located in the heart of Central America, this island is home to incredible beaches and lots of local culture and flavor. Both white and black sand can be found here, alongside aquamarine waters perfect for a variety of water sports and activities.

At the beaches of Costa Rica you can enjoy lounging on the sand, swimming, sailing, boating, fishing, surfing and more. If you like sports you may want to consider beach volleyball or even taking a horseback ride down the shore. Hiking is a popular activity because of the plethora of gorgeous locations to visit. Cruises are popular to and from the island of Costa Rica, and often feature on shore excursions for passengers to enjoy. On these excursions you will probably get to see all kinds of gorgeous plants, flowers and animals.

One of the most appealing things about this island is the biodiversity. Here you will find rainforests, cloud forests, beaches, lakes, rivers and other ecological environments. There are over 900 tree species and 1,500 species of orchid. With close to 10,000 plant species Costa Rica is a horticulturist's paradise. The bird population of the island is very impressive also. On your vacation you might get to see the harpy eagle, toucan, scarlet macaw or one of Costa Rica's other colorful bird species. Mammals include a variety of monkey species such as the capuchin and howler monkey.

When considering the right island, Costa Rica should be given some serious consideration because of all its wonderful ecological features. Not only that, but there are great restaurants and places to shop. Speak to a travel agent or plan your own getaway online using an Internet travel site. There are plenty of them these days that compete for business and give you the opportunity to put together your own custom travel packages. If you do decide to vacation in Costa Rica make sure to take a camera with you because you'll want to capture memories that will last a lifetime.
